Clint Dempsey has looked far more active throughout Saturday's match, notably putting himself higher up the pitch than he has in most matches. It paid off in the 26th minute, when Dempsey hit a pass from Erik Friberg first time. The shot was from right around the penalty spot and was through a bit of traffic. Jordan Morris also picked up his first MLS assist.
The sequence was actually started when Dempsey slipped in Herculez Gomez with a pass. But Gomez's shot was blocked by the defender.
The goal was Dempsey's second of the season and his first from open play since the 2015 regular-season finale against Real Salt Lake.
