Megan Rapinoe is well on her to returning to competitive play. Unfortunately for Seattle Reign fans, it likely won’t be before she leaves to join the United States women’s national team ahead of the Summer Olympics.

The women’s soccer portion of the Olympics run from Aug. 3-19. Although the NWSL won’t play any games during that period, the USWNT players are leaving their clubs after next week’s matches for training and pre-Olympics friendlies. In the meantime, the Reign will play five more matches.
In a best-case scenario, Rapinoe could be back in time for the Aug. 27 match against the Portland Thorns. But even then she’d only be able to play five Reign matches before the playoffs.
Still, the Reign would surely love to have her back, even if only for a stretch run. Especially if that means she’s able to contribute significantly in the playoffs.
