Three Big Storylines:
- Friday Night MLS on UniMas has featured consecutive doubleheaders since the Copa America break ended, but tonight we have just one game, an 8 PM West Coast kickoff in Carson, California. The LA Galaxy take on a struggling Houston Dynamo at home meaning they will have an additional two days of rest before Wednesday's US Open Cup Quarterfinal game against the Sounders who play on Sunday. Steven Gerrard is third in MLS in assists and second in assists per 90 minutes and looks to be settling in after a rocky 2015 MLS debut for the Galaxy.
- The Colorado Rapids host Sporting Kansas City (Saturday, 6 PM, MLS Live) in a game that sees Jermaine Jones return to the lineup. Like a few other players, Jones picked up a minor injury following Copa America and missed their last game in Vancouver against the Whitecaps. The Rapids have only dropped two points at home all season earning 25 points from 9 played. The Rapids still lead MLS in PPG, but have cooled off as of late and are on a three match draw streak.
- Sunday sees a National TV triple header starting with the Seattle Sounders at Portland Timbers on FOX (not Fox Sports, but the mothership) at Noon, followed by the Montreal Impact hosting New York City FC at 2 PM and finishing with the other New York team, New York Red Bulls, at the Philadelphia Union at 4 PM. The four Eastern Conference teams in action Sunday occupy the top four spots in the Eastern Conference. Look for a bit of a standings shakeup in the East at the end of the day.
From a Sounders Point of View:
The Sounders can do themselves a favor if they take a little bit of the momentum from Wednesday's cathartic 5-0 win over FC Dallas and bring that momentum to Portland.
Speaking of Dallas, in year's past FC Dallas has played extremely well early in the season then lost big to Seattle which sent them into a tailspin. Dallas host the Chicago Fire on Saturday, go Fire and let's see that FC Dallas summer Sounder induced swoon return.
If the Dynamo could get even a draw in LA it would be great. And three Eastern Conference teams play at Western opponents. We will be cheering for the New England Revolution, Orlando City SC and Toronto FC to at least steal a point in Sandy, Vancouver and San Jose respectively.
