As part of MLS All-Star festivities the MLS Homegrown team will play the Mexico U-20 team on Wednesday at San Jose's Avaya Stadium.
The MLS Homegrown team is managed by Landon Donovan, who also picked the squad. Stuart Holden and Chris Sharpe will serve as Donovan's assistant coaches. The criteria for selection was to be a HGP (sorry Cristian Roldan) and under 23 years of age (sorry Gyasi Zardes).
The Seattle Sounders Jordan Morris returns to the Bay Area where last year he lead Stanford to the NCAA Men's Soccer title. Avaya Stadium is 15.8 miles from Stanford's Cagan Stadium, or approximately two hours in Bay Area traffic, so look for Morris to get the start. Aaron Kovar was originally on the squad but is now inactive after fracturing his clavicle in the US Open Cup.
This is the third time MLS All-Star festivities have featured a Homegrown game and by far the most interesting opponent. In 2014 the opponent was the Portland Timbers U-23 team and in 2015 the opponent was a Club America youth team. Both games ended in draws.
