To call this a roller-coaster week in the world of the Seattle Sounders would be a dramatic understatement. In the last few days, we’ve seen the only coach we’ve known in the MLS era effectively fired, a in-his-prime playmaker lured away from Boca Juniors and a former Designated Player return.
And that’s just been the most public stuff.
There were also rumblings that the locker room was in complete disarray, that coaches had lost the trust of the players and that, most pointedly, Clint Dempsey was in the middle of it all, even angling for a move out of town.
How much that is true is almost impossible to say, but Dempsey at least attempted to set the record straight in terms of where he wants to be playing.
Curiously, the attached video is less than 2 minutes long and doesn’t include that quote or anything like it. That said, this is almost certainly a shortened version of Twellman’s interview and it’s not very hard to take him at his word.
It should also be said that Dempsey is signed through 2017, would be pretty hard to trade and probably isn’t about to move back to Europe, so his options may be somewhat limited.
At the very least, we can hope this puts questions about Dempsey’s immediate future to rest and we can hold up hope that he can rediscover his club form while playing alongside the likes of Nicolas Lodeiro.
