Brian Schmetzer takes over the Seattle Sounders facing Bruce Arena's LA Galaxy. Schmetz last coached a competitive match against the Galaxy in 2003. That Open Cup match coaching opponent was Sigi Schmid. Today will be a bit different. Coach Schmetzer is now the coach of an MLS team that is, as Garth Lagerwey calls it, in "crisis." One game will not change that. Sunday's 1 PM match on ESPN is the first of a journey that we make together.
Drew Fisher is the center ref for the game in only his 58th MLS match. Roman Torres remains on the DL for the Sounders. Aaron Kovar is out with a broken clavicle. Robbie Rogers is out with an ankle issue. The Galaxy list Gerrard, Zardes and Cole as questionable. Seattle only lists Friberg as questionable. Neither team has a player within a yellow card of an accumulation suspension.
