Three Big Storylines:
- Friday night MLS on UniMas features another doubleheader to start the MLS weekend. Orlando City SC hosts the Houston Dynamo in the battle of interim managers (Bobby Murphy for Orlando and Wade Barrett for Houston) as both teams have recently sacked their head man. Kaka has only played 9 out of 16 games this season for OCSC and it looks like he is out again tonight. Maybe Adrian Heath would still be around if he had his marquee player healthy? The second half of the Viernes de Fútbol doubleheader sees the San Jose Earthquakes hosting FC Dallas. This is the third and final time these teams play this season, the first two meetings have been draws.
- The Colorado Rapids still lead MLS with a 1.94 PPG pace. They travel to Cascadia on Saturday to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps (7:00 PM, MLS Live). The Rapids have not lost since April 9th, a string of 12 games where they earned 26 points, and just added Tim Howard as a DP goalkeeper. Over the next six matches we will see if the Rapids are for real and are going to run away with the Supporters' Shield or just had an incredibly lucky run of form over the first half of the season. Their next six: at Vancouver, Sporting KC, FC Dallas, at NYCFC, Vancouver, at LA Galaxy.
- Sunday sees ESPN2 using the European Championship Final featuring France hosting Portugal at Noon as a lead-in for the weekly Sunday ESPN game featuring the Portland Timbers traveling to New Jersey to take on the New York Red Bulls. The Red Bulls are coming off their first ever loss to cross town rival NYCFC and will be looking to end a three game winless run, while after a slow start to their season the Timbers are unbeaten in six matches earning 12 points over that span.
From a Sounders Point of View:
It goes without saying, we need three points this weekend. Games in hand need to be won.
Orlando needs that new coach bump, the first game with a new manager always seems to go well. If Houston earn even a point in Orlando on Friday night then the Sounders will enter the weekend last in the Western Conference.
FC Dallas is definitely making the playoffs, so if they can beat the Earthquakes in San Jose on Friday night that would be good. A third draw for those two this year would be okay as well. An Earthquakes win is a bad result for the Sounders.
On Sunday, we are all in on New York. Red Bulls when they host the Timbers and New York City FC as they travel to Sporting KC.
