A few teams in MLS are comparable to the Seattle Sounders. They've won some trophies; Seattle won some trophies. They have big name players; Seattle has big name players. The LA Galaxy are different. They are the only team that is clearly better than Sounders FC. They have more wins, more trophies, more names, more international attention than Seattle. And there is only one way for Roth, Hanauer, Lagerwey and Schmid to fix that - beat the Galaxy on the field, often.

The '09 to present LA Galaxy represent the height of what an MLS team can be. That's the Seattle dream. Only winning now, and twice later this month, and making the playoffs and winning the MLS Cup can come close to making that dream real. Even then the Sounders would need to perform at that level for a couple years to take over the throne that LA built.

So of course ESPN wants this game. These are the best two organizations in the league. Even with a Noon start and a hint at rain 40,000 voices will cascade down from the CenturyLink Field stands. This is rivalry, pure and true, earned on contested fields.

Baldemaro Toledo is the center ref for the game. The Galaxy will be without Nigel de Jong (suspension), Ashley Cole (injury), and Robbie Rogers (injury). Roman Torres remains on the DL for the Sounders and Brad Evans is a game-time decision. Daniel Steres and Osvaldo Alonso will be suspended with their next yellow card.
