For just the second time all season, the Seattle Sounders will be using the same lineup in consecutive games. It’s not hard to understand why.
The Sounders are coming off one of their best performances of the year, a 3-1 dismantling of Orlando City that ended a 17-match home unbeaten run. The Sounders had only one once before on the road this year. As lopsided as that score was, the Sounders easily could have had two or three more goals.
Bench: Miller, Scott, Friberg, Fernandez, Anderson, Gomez, Valdez.
The only other time the Sounders repeated a lineup was June 19-25 when they faced the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC. The Sounders lost both of those games and were notably missing Clint Dempsey.
A week ago, Nicolas Lodeiro was given the freedom to roam all over the midfield while the Sounders got most of their width from fullbacks Joevin Jones and Tyrone Mears. That lineup also saw Cristian Roldan and Osvaldo Alonso mostly sit back in a more defensive posture.
Real Salt Lake will counter with a lineup whose most notable absence is leading scorer Yura Movsisyan.
