Rio Olympics, Closing Sunday: What to Watch For

Well friends, it has been a long two weeks together following the Rio De Janeiro Olympics.  This is the 17th post on Sounder at Heart over the course of the Olympics.  While we have mostly focused on soccer, on days like today where there is no soccer we focus on the Other Notable Olympic Broadcasts section of every post.  One last time from Rio, let's do it together and thanks for following along.

Other Notable Olympic Broadcasts Today:

Men's Olympic Marathon
The Men's Marathon is held exclusively on the last morning of the Olympics.  This year in Rio it is no exception.   Galen Rupp for the USA won the Olympic Trials in his marathon debut and is one representative of the USA.  Rupp is an unknown in elite marathon competition but he competed in the 10,000M final just eight days ago.

Cycling, Men's Mountain Bike
This is one of those events that somehow slips into the Olympics and then just waits until the final day of the Olympics to join the party.  Okay, that's actually just one sport.  Men's Mountain Bike.  I am sure there is an explanation for the scheduling that makes sense to a guy in an IOC blazer, but let's enjoy one of Rio's last individual medals being awarded.

Men's Volleyball Gold Medal: Brazil v Italy
Outside of Neymar making that penalty kick to bring home a gold medal in soccer, this might be Brazil's most wanted medal.  The atmosphere inside the venue should not be missed, it is electric.
9:00 AM, NBC

Men's Basketball Gold Medal: USA v Serbia
The USA only beat Serbia 94-91 in the qualifying round and objectively Serbia has rolled through their other games much easier than the USA.  From a local standpoint, this game features a Cougar (Klay Thompson) and a Sonic (Kevin Durant) playing major roles.
11:15 AM, NBC

NBC Primetime is entirely consumed by the Closing Ceremony from Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium.
