Three Big Storylines:

  1. Viernes de Fútbol on UniMas opens the MLS weekend going back to the earlier 5 PM time slot after an extended run of 8 PM kickoffs on Friday night.  The Rocky Mountain Cup features the Colorado Rapids traveling to Real Salt Lake.  This is the first match of MLS Rivalry Week.  A Cup will be decided tonight as this is the third and final meeting between Rocky Mountain Cup rivals, each has a home 1-0 win in the three game series.  In case of a tie the Rocky Mountain Cup is decided by goal differential. As that is tied, it will stay with the holders.  The Rapids won the Cup in 2015 on goal differential, so Real Salt Lake need a win to take home the trophy.  The series currently stands seven Cups for Real and four for the Rapids.
  2. The Columbus Crew SC hosted the MLS Cup in 2015 and were many pundits pick to make it back to MLS Cup and have a run at the Supporters' Shield.  Well it has not worked out in 2016 for the Crew.  They sit 10th in the Eastern Conference on 23 points from 24 played (0.96 PPG).  Saturday they host the San Jose Earthquakes and need a win to get back in playoff contention.  Because the east is much weaker than the west the Crew are only five points below the red line.  The Crew finish with three away games to end the season and only have three more home games after this weekend.  It's not a mathematical must win game but if they have any hope to make they playoffs, they must win.
  3. Sunday sees a national TV triple header that opens with the New York Red Bulls hosting New England Revolution and closes with a 2015 expansion team battle as New York City FC travel to Florida to take on Orlando City sandwiched around the headline of the weekend when the Seattle Sounders travel down I-5 to take on the Portland Timbers.  The Revolution seem to be on a free fall, expect the Red Bulls to continue their woes.

From a Sounders Point of View:

Colorado and Real Salt Lake are comfortably above the red line and both likely to finish ahead of the Sounders.  But Colorado are on 43 points from 24 played (1.79 PPG) while Real Salt Lake are on 40 points from 26 played (1.54 PPG), cheering for a Rapids win or a Draw here.

The Philadelphia Union host Sporting Kansas City.  This might be the biggest game this weekend for this section, Sounders fans are big backers of Alejandro Bedoya and the Union getting a home win as Sporting are only seven points up on Seattle with two more games played.

Forget what I just said, the biggest game for this section is the Columbus Crew beating the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday.  The Quakes are just one point above the Sounders with the same games played.

LA Galaxy at Vancouver Whitecaps, let's call this one a draw.
