Hope Solo to miss Portland match, granted personal leave

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

After Seattle Reign FC's Hope Solo was suspended by US Soccer on Wednesday, speculation about whether Solo would play against the Portland Thorns began. Roughly 4 hours before Saturday's match, we found out the answer. Solo has been granted personal leave by the Seattle Reign and will not play against the Thorns

The news came first in a tweet and then shortly after a media alert from the club announcing the temporary signing of backup goalkeeper Andi Tostanoski.

This is not the first time Tostanoski has signed with the club. On July 8, she signed with the Reign before coming in against Western New York Flash when Haley Kopmeyer was injured during the game. She started the next game for Seattle, also against the Western New York Flash.

There is no word on the length of Solo's personal leave. This could be one game to make sure Solo comes back to the club with the right frame of mind for a playoff push, or it could be the first step in the end of Hope Solo as a Seattle soccer player. Time will tell.
