On her 30th birthday, Seattle Reign FC forward Manon Melis was named NWSL Player of the Week for week 16. Voted by the NWSL Media Association, Melis’ brace against rival Portland Thorns beat out Washington Spirit’s (and former Seattle Reign FC player) Christine Nairn and Houston Dash’s Kealia Ohai.
Here’s a reminder of the goals Melis scored in the 27th and 50th minutes of Seattle’s 3-1 win over Portland.
It is the first time Melis has been honored as the NWSL Player of the Week, and the 13th time a member of Reign FC has won the award.
As Laura Harvey has said many times, “Goals change games.” And goals are also sources of happiness. Check out Harvey’s reaction to Melis’ first goal. It’s awesome when the sideline cameras operated by our friends at Bootstrapper Studios capture bonus bits of magic.
Melis is now the leading scorer for the Reign. She has 5 goals and 2 assists this season. Congratulations, Manon! And here’s to many more goals for Seattle this year, as the Reign look to close in on the final playoff spot. The team currents sits four points behind the Western New York Flash with four games remaining.
