Major Link Soccer: FIFA Qualifying Week

International week kicks off with friendlies, the USMNT look to qualify for the next round, Lodeiro going where no one has before, and Goals of the Week.

US Soccer

A trip to the next round is at stake for the USMNT, with two games left and two teams advancing out of each group. Today, the Nats will travel to Kingstown, the capital of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where they’ll play the hosts at National Cricket Stadium in a Friday afternoon World Cup qualifier.

Today, three million youths play soccer in the US, compared to 1.5 million in 1990. But more importantly, the youth leagues are providing more than workouts for preteens — they’re making it possible for young people to imagine playing for their hometowns. Jordan Morris had that same dream.

Seattle native Sharon McMurtry, the first woman to be named US Soccer Player of the Year and one of the finest midfielders of her era, has become something of a forgotten idol. But her generation’s influence can be felt three decades later as today's players seek pay equity.

World Soccer

Diving, professional fouls, deception: why do footballers do it? Where did it come from? And would you do it if you were in their position?

A win against Osasuna would put Zinedine Zidane's star even with the legendary Miguel Munoz. Madrid not only won the Champions League in May with Zidane, they've also now won their last 14 La Liga matches in a row, one shy of the club's all-time record.

The World Cup could be expanded from 32 to 40 teams, according to FIFA president Gianni Infantino. And all the people in Lichtenstein started screaming "So your telling me there's a chance".

This poor defender's day went from exuberant to dejected in the matter of seconds. I'm sure he will always remember that time he scored a hat-trick and got sent off.

Joe Hart, who has been left out in the cold by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, flew to Torino with his agent and will have a medical prior to signing on a season-long loan deal.

Sure, there have been landscape-altering MLS signings, but few have made immediate, mid-summer impacts like new Seattle Sounder player Nicolas Lodeiro.

For the Sounders, Sunday's first half against Portland was a dumpster fire. All four Seattle defenders endured their worst game of the season all at once. Having Clint Dempsey out of lineup made it worse.

Four Four Two broke down the "Top 10 number 10's in MLS". With some time, Lodeiro could find himself atop this list.

U.S. Under-19 Men’s National Team head coach Brad Friedel has named a 20-player roster for the 2016 Stevan-Vilotic Cele tournament, set to take place from Sept. 1-5 in Subotica, Serbia. The roster includes two Sounders Academy products.

Go vote for Stefan Frei for "MLS Save of the Week."

Major League Soccer

The hunt for the Supporters' Shield is down to four teams as the MLS season hits its home stretch and final two months.

Bastian Schweinsteiger may find out the hard way that dreams don't always come true! Which could be a good thing for Major League Soccer.

Former US Men's National Team defender Oguchi Onyewu is training with the New England Revolution. You might remeber the "Gooch" from the time he kicked Zlatan's ass in Milan.

Could we see Bob Bradley's return to Major League Soccer in the 2017 Season, maybe in rave green?

Goals of the Week: Volley's, Hat-trick, and a Flip
