Bayern Munich is on a bit of a summer US tour, and CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had some interesting things to say about the club's interest in some sort of partnership with an MLS team. Although several examples show that big foreign clubs getting in on US soccer action (as a brand extending exercise or otherwise) can be hit or miss, Bayern seems to be thinking about it:
"We, in Europe, have to be interested in helping U.S. soccer grow up," Rummenigge told SBD. "Maybe sometimes we have to do more in their favor. There could be an exchange of talent or coaches. We have to have an interest in U.S. soccer to help them and not just come here to cash in."
Rapids keeper Zac MacMath speaks out on his understandable frustration with being demoted behind Tim Howard. Despite putting up great numbers before Howard's arrival, MacMath knew his days as the number one were realistically over for the foreseeable future, and he's ready to move on from Colorado.
Fabian Castillo's transfer to Trabonspor is complete, as a year-long loan with an option to buy, but it wasn't like FC Dallas had much choice after Castillo ran off to Turkey without FCD's permission and forced a move. Dallas knows they could potentially win some kind of arbitration, but they want to move on and focus on the rest of the season.
Orlando City has signed two Orlando City B players to first team contracts, but first they had to trade for the MLS rights Tony Rocha and Mikey Ambrose from SKC and FC Dallas.
Minnesota soccer fans got to experience US Bank stadium for the first time in the friendly match between Chelsea and AC Milan, where over 64,000 showed up. This impressive crowd shows the potential audience that the MLS team can tap into, but this writer also had some criticisms of the stadium experience.
Speaking of Minnesota United FC, now would be a great (or terrible) time to buy some of their merchandise. Big discounts have started on all their gear, suggesting a name change may be revealed soon-ish (maybe once those kits sell out).
Kitman Labs is an Ireland-based athletic performance analysis startup who has helped Ireland prepare it's first-ever Olympic field hockey team. They use biometric data analysis to predict and hopefully prevent injury (a club known as the Seattle Sounders is another client of theirs).
NBCSN's broadcast of the USWNT victory over New Zealand beat their showing of the 2012 London opening US Women's match, averaging 1.3 million viewers.
Nigeria's Olympic mens team is having some travel difficulties that at best will get them into Rio five hours before their first match. They were in the US training, and an unclear mixup over the size of the chartered plane and payments from the Nigerian federation held up their travels to South America.
It's definitely a disappointed that the US men aren't competing in Rio, but is it a disaster? How much does it matter?
Marta may be a Brazilian soccer legend, but she seems to be sick of being directly compared to her male counterparts. "Marta is Marta, Neymar is Neymar," sums up her opinion pretty well.
Here are the future stars to keep your eye on in Rio if you want to say "I watched them before they transferred to [name of European Superclub].

Real Madrid keep offering Bayern Munich more and more money for David Alaba, and they keep getting shut down. That doesn't seem to stop them though.
