MLS Weekend, How to Watch MLS in Week 29. TV and Streaming Listings

New, comments

The struggle with the red line is heating up in both conferences, FOX showing MLS in a traditional NFL timeslot and the Golden Boot race is heating up. Three Big Storylines, TV and Streaming Listing and From a Sounders Point of View. Here is your MLS Week 29 Gamethread

Three Big Storylines:

  1. Viernes de Fútbol on UniMas opens the MLS weekend with an important game involving the Eastern Conference playoff race.  As it stands Orlando City SC (34 points), New England Revolution (33) and D.C. United (33) are battling for the last playoff spot.  D.C. United heads East to take on a Chicago Fire team with 26 points that is a longshot at best to make the playoffs.  On Saturday, Orlando host bottom dwellers Columbus Crew SC while the Revolution travel to Canada to take on the Montreal Impact in the other matches with red line implications in the east.
  2. The Golden Boot race is heating up.  Bradley Wright-Phillips is on 18 goals while David Villa is one back and Sebastian Giovinco is two back.  Giovinco has been out after suffering quadriceps and adductor strains in Toronto's August 27th match with Montreal but is close to returning.  Wright-Phillips and Villa will likely have one more week to pad their leads before the atomic ant returns to retain his title from 2015.
  3. Sunday sees the first MLS and NFL doubleheader on FOX broadcast networks during the new television deal.  Because of the myriad different broadcast rules and rights, the games will be either on FOX or you will have an NFL game.  MLS.com has more details.  Landon Donovan will be making his second appearance for the Galaxy since last week's return from retirement when the LA Galaxy travel to Sporting Kansas City.  In Donovan's return he entered in the 83rd minute but the game featured Giovani dos Santos who finished with 2 goals and 2 assists in the Galaxy's 4-2 win over Orlando City SC.  The second half of the Sunday double header sees a red hot Jozy Altidore (6 goals in 8 games) hosting the New York Red Bulls in a game between the first and second place teams in the Eastern Conference.

From a Sounders Point of View:

Three points at home.  Just get three points.  The Vancouver Whitecaps played Sporting KC midweek in CCL action and will be on short rest.

In other matches, we are big Philadelphia Union fans as they head to Cascadia to take on the Portland Timbers (Saturday, 3 PM, MLS Live and Root Sports in the Northwest).

We are also cheering for the Colorado Rapids at home to beat the San Jose Earthquakes (Saturday, 6 PM, MLS Live) and the LA Galaxy to take three points at Sporting Kansas City on Sunday.
