There was some trepidation when Nicolas Lodeiro joined the Seattle Sounders. Could a key player for one of the world’s best national teams maintain his role with that nation while playing in MLS? That answer is clearly a yes.
Lodeiro is being called up for the two October FIFA International dates when he and Uruguay will face Venezuela and Colombia.

La Celeste are currently first in CONMEBOL qualifying after they lost to Argentina on Sept. 1 (Nico started playing 60’) and trounced Paraguay (Lodeiro DNP) a few days later.
Lodeiro will likely miss the Seattle Sounders’ home game against Houston Dynamo on Oct. 12, unless club and country can come to an agreement for an early release after the first international matchday on Oct. 6. He should be present for the Oct. 2 match at Vancouver Whitecaps and then leave for Uruguay’s home game against Venezuela.
Nicolas’ MLS form is outstanding. He has three goals and six assists in his seven matches.
