Three Big Storylines:
- The battle with the red line is coming down to the wire. In the Eastern Conference it is the New England Revolution on 36 points from 30 played in the last playoff spot with D.C. United and Orlando City SC on 34 points with 29 games played chasing them for one spot. The West is looking like it will come down to what the Seattle Sounders do with their two games in hand. The Sounders are on 35 points from 28 played one spot below the red line chasing Sporting Kansas City who are on 40 points from 30 played and the Portland Timbers (41 points from 30 played) in the 5th and 6th playoff spots respectively.
- On the other side of the ledger the Supporters' Shield is FC Dallas's trophy to lose. FCD are on 52 points from 30 played. Toronto FC are the team likeliest to catch them. TFC are on 47 points from 29 played with a home game against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday and four of their last five at home including home games against Orlando City SC, D.C. United and the Chicago Fire with their only away match at Montreal. Dallas are at Real Salt Lake this weekend and finish at the LA Galaxy with home matches against the Galaxy and Seattle Sounders in the middle.
- Viernes de Fútbol on UniMas opens the MLS weekend with a preview of Wednesday's Sounders opponent when the Chicago Fire travel to Yankee Stadium to play New York City FC. NYCFC are comfortably in the playoffs and are still playing for a bye in the first round. They are in 3rd in the Eastern Conference with 45 points from 30 played tied with the New York Red Bulls for second with identical 12-9-9 records but behind on goal differential (12 to -1). The Fire will be in Seattle on Wednesday with two extra days of rest to play the Sounders, but they are in 10th in the East and the only team under 1.0 PPG in MLS.
From a Sounders Point of View:
Let's go Dynamo! The Houston Dynamo host the Portland Timbers on Saturday (6:00 PM, MLS Live) and we are all hoping the Timbers have a problem in Houston.
The San Jose Earthquakes are two places in the table below the Sounders but only one point back and also with six games to play. The Quakes are hosting Sporting Kansas City on Saturday (7:30 PM, MLS Live). This game could have a lot of implications by the end of the season but it is unclear which team to cheer for. Let's call it a draw.
