The Seattle Sounders will double-dip into the special jersey sponsorship well this year, after an agreement with Microsoft to add Gears of War 4 lettering to their Pacific Blue kits for their Sunday clash with the LA Galaxy.
This sponsorship deal mirrors one the Sounders did last year with Microsoft to add a Halo logo to their Pitch Black jersey. At the time the Sounders called that deal “the first of its kind.”
The Gears of War sponsorship will return for the Sounders’ Oct. 23 home match with Real Salt Lake, in a full-stadium match. At that match, a limited number of the Gears 4 jerseys will be available for purchase. Fans with Pacific Blue jerseys can bring them in to have the Gears 4 logo added
In the Halo game last year, the Sounders carried a 1-0 deficit for most of the match before Chad Barrett stabbed home a Marco Pappa corner for a stoppage-time draw. Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins had a number of late chances that didn’t quite convert. The Sounders will need to find a way to score on the road without all of those contributors on Sunday when they try to save humanity from the Galaxy once again.
