The 24-year-old keeper is currently a free agent and should find a new opportunity in USL or NASL in 2017. Charlie Lyon was the third keeper in each of his two seasons with Seattle Sounders FC and only made the bench in one MLS and 2 Open Cup matches.
The ranking is based on several hundred Sounder at Heart readers’ votes. Realio rated every single MLS regular season and playoff game as well as the two CONCACAF Champions League matches. He did not rate USL or USOC play.

Shot Stopping:
Giving up nearly two goals a game while stopping less than 60% of attempts is a poor season. Lyon’s reactions were good, but wasn’t in the proper spaces often enough. Often stretched out just short of stopping the ball.
Distribution:
Poor on goal kicks and punts. Didn’t do well with the ball at his feet. Was best at thrown passes, and could spring an attack that way.
Leadership:
Never established himself as the commander of the defense, leaving that responsibility to rest on Nelson and Alfaro.
Best Case 2017:
A starting role on an independent USL team so he can showcase the skills to get back on an MLS contract.
