Now, in the cold of winter, under grey skies, we can look back on the greatest day in Seattle’s young MLS history. It was a Final defined by defense, and not the numerous attacking talents on the field. It was Stefan Frei with The Save and Roman Torres with the winning kick from the spot.

It lead to the greatest two tweets in Sounder at Heart history.

Because of all of that, we will always have this moment.

It led to a parade.

It led to a star you can wear on whatever you want. We suggest a hoodie or a t-shirt, but we’re biased in favor of our own store. Regardless, put that star everywhere. You are champions too. Brian Schmetzer, Head Coach Seattle Sounders FC, has been clear about that. The fans are a part of this club. Togetherness is a Sounders value.

They’ll win more trophies. They are the Seattle Sounders FC. Their trophy case carries many awards, but this is the biggest, so far. That day in December earned the club recognition as champions in the highest level of competition in US Soccer.

Now, a month later, the team is in transition. More than a third of the roster are gone, but those who leave us do so with grand memories. They wore the Rave Green in its brightest, and darkest, year. They will be associated with greatness forever.

These changes hurt, but they also allow us to remember December 10th, 2016 at 8:00 PM Pacific when the Seattle Sounders FC won MLS Cup 2016.
