Jimmy Ockford will not be on Seattle Sounders FC in 2017 with the announcement that he has joined USL side Reno 1868 FC. Ockford has spent the last three years on the back end of the Sounders’ roster and out on loan but his time as one for the future appears to have run out.
Ockford spent three years playing as a forward at Mount St. Mary’s before a senior year move to Louisville that saw him play centerback for the Cardinals. His performance in a new position his last collegiate season was impressive enough for the Sounders to pick him 21st in the 2014 draft.
He spent his first year as a Sounder out on loan with the New York Cosmos where he made 10 league appearances and added two goals. He did well enough with the Cosmos that the Sounders kept him around for the 2015 season but he only managed one appearance for the first team, spending most of his time with S2. Ockford then spent the 2016 season again on loan with the Cosmos.
His second spell in the NASL was less impressive than his first so it is no surprise the Sounders have decided to part ways with the now 24-year-old CB who will now look to prove himself in the USL.
