Media days can be tough, both for subjects and reporters. Usually, there’s a bunch of players dragged out in front of reporters and asked an assortment of questions. Rarely does anything particularly newsworthy surface.
Nicolas Lodeiro, though, managed to alter that narrative.
While we only have the highlights available via Twitter, he managed to drop a few lines that shows he at least knows what Seattle Sounders fans want to hear.
About coming to Seattle:
Lodeiro: "Knowing that [SoundersFC] had not won #MLS Cup was a motivation to come ... My objective is to always leave my mark, make history"
— Richard Farley (@richardfarley) January 17, 2017
About his future with the Sounders:
Lodeiro: "There are always offers from other teams, but the truth is, I want people in Seattle to know, I see myself here for a long time."
— Richard Farley (@richardfarley) January 17, 2017
There was a playful dig at one of his teammates:
Me: "Who in [@SoundersFC] locker room has the worst taste in music?"
— Richard Farley (@richardfarley) January 17, 2017
Lodeiro: "@Jmosmooth13. I don't even know what it is."
What really got tongues wagging, though was this line about recruiting good friend Luis Suarez to MLS:
Nico Lodeiro: Uruguayan buddy Luis Suarez "is only a phone call away" from joining @SoundersFC.
— Paul Kennedy (@pkedit) January 17, 2017
We’re told by people who were there that this was very much a joke, and was not meant to suggest Suarez is considering the possibility of leaving Barcelona — where he is in the midst of another outstanding season — for the Sounders anytime in the near future. And it’s another discussion all together whether or not Suarez’s baggage makes him an unattractive target.
Still, it’s reassuring to know that Lodeiro not only likes it here and sees a future for himself here, but that he’s also apparently happy to tell his friends about how great it is.
