Trinidad & Tobago’s Gold Cup qualifying matches against Suriname and Haiti will be lacking a familiar face, with Joevin Jones being dropped from the squad. Initially excused from the national team side for its friendly against Nicaragua, Jones was expected to join the squad for the January qualifiers but apparently did not report to training.
Trinidad’s manager, Tom Saintfiet, talked with Jones and said he was due to report on January 1st but did not show. After discussing that Jones was skipping the friendly due to fatigue, Saintfiet was unimpressed that he was able to play in multiple charity matches and a friendly for W Connection against Haiti over the holidays.
Saintfiet may not be calling in Jones anytime soon if his statement regarding Joevin is any indication into the his future plans, “So I think he has no interest to help his country to qualify.”
Joevin Jones was not the only player that was selected for the 20-man roster that will not be playing. Daneil Cyrus and Jomal Williams were dismissed after arriving for training an hour and a half late and reportedly smelling of alcohol.
