BK Häcken have announced the signing of Seattle Sounders’ midfielder Erik Friberg to a four year deal. The Swede returns home after a short, though ultimately successful, second stint in Seattle. His departure leaves the Sounders’ roster looking increasingly spare.
Friberg made 38 appearances over the past two seasons in which he scored 1 goal and provided 3 assists. Though always a strong defender in midfield, a series of small injuries seemed to prevent Friberg from bringing his best offense consistently over the past season. Despite the inconsistency, he played an important part in the Sounders’ run to MLS Cup.
Early this morning Friberg said his goodbyes on twitter.
I am so happy to have been a part of the @SoundersFC . Thanks to players, coaches and everyone around the team. And➡️

This will be Friberg’s second stretch with BK Häcken who currently play in Allsvenskan, Sweden’s first division. BK Häcken will hope his return to Göteborg will resemble the one he made to Seattle.
