Major Link Soccer: Deadline Day

The window closes in most of Europe for transfers today, while MLS closes the expansion bid window.

MLS/NWSL:

As the NASL cookie crumbles, teams with ambition are looking elsewhere. The Indy Eleven are applying for MLS expansion after being a pretty successful D2 side.

While the Sounders have largely been quiet with foreign signings this off-season, "rivals" San Jose are loading up with two more European signings today.

If you are considering submitting a bid for an MLS expansion side, your deadline is today (Jan 31st). And if you are about to hit the deadline - first, thank you for visiting and taking the time to read this when you should be finishing your paperwork and two, MLS has a nifty list of who has already submitted bids.

USA:

While the NBA is publicly fighting the White House, other leagues have shied away. The MLS players union and plenty of players across the USMNT and USWNT have spoken out. Sunil Gulati was fairly quiet on the issue; should he have said more?

Not many players proved they deserved a starting spot for the USMNT after a lackluster performance against Serbia, but a few players did. A few players hurt their stock too.

Bruce Arena sent home a couple players from camp - or rather, they asked away. Sacha Kljestan and Jermaine Jones are not hanging around for the USMNT match against Jamaica. At least Kljestan's reason is good, assuming you consider child birth a good reason.

World:

Today is the final day of silly season in Europe. The majority of leagues close their transfer windows today. Of course, anything from nothing to massive names moving could happen, no one knows till the music stops. Sky Sports has a rundown on all moves throughout the continent.

The US youth setup might have a new home - Germany. Julian Green and Christian Pulisic grew tremendously at their respective clubs, and now US U-17 standout, Josh Sargent, is training at Schalke.
