Major Link Soccer: Will Columbus become the Austin Crew?

Also: player safety hits a new low, and Cork City need a good contractor

MLS

DC United was busy getting blown out by the Portland Timbers, but in the build to the final goal Steve Birnbaum was knocked unconcious in front of, and then ignored by, Mark Geiger. If PRO isn’t careful players are going to get hurt if the refs don’t start paying attention.

FC Dallas isn’t in control of their playoff chances after losing in Seattle. Fans of the Texan side have been left wondering, do they even want their side in the playoffs?

Red Bull Arena is soon going to be hosting two clubs, the Red Bulls and a new rugby team that hopes to play in the British league. Hey at least there will be no football lines.

Sacramento really wants to be an MLS side and the Republic’s ownership group is pulling out all the stops, including agreeing to a sponsor. At least its not another pyramid scheme (*cough* LAG *cough).

Columbus might be on the move. the Crew’s ownership is threatening to move the club to Austin, Texas if the city doesn’t work with them to build a downtown stadium. While I don’t want anyone to lose a team, away trips to Austin would mean great food.

USA

For the USMNT to become a better team and start to compete on the big stage, MLS needs to become a selling league. A true selling league that lets its best youth talent move on to bigger and better leagues.

The USMNT is already trying to move on from arguably their lowest moment ever by traveling to face the European Champs in November.

Who should the USMNT call-up for the Portugal friendly? Who should even coach the squad when they head to Europe during the next international break? The game could serve as the best look at the future generation should the next boss choose to bring in just young professionals.

Do you know who George Weah is? Famous footballer, yes that one. Well, his son Tim Weah is tearing it up for the US U-17s, and here’s five things you should know about the striker.

FIFA rankings came out and somehow the US went up. Yes, after failing to qualify to the World Cup, FIFA is trolling the USMNT by raising them up in the rankings.

World

Are you rich? If so, call me because together we can put together a bid to buy Newcastle United. DeAndre Yedlin’s club is for sale and they’ll even defer payment.

When Red Bull Leipzig signed Naby Keita away from their sister club, Red Bull Salzburg, they didn’t expect to lose him immediately. The release clause that activates after one season has already been paid by Liverpool.

Hurricanes are bad (this in particular includes the University of Miami - hi, Jeff). If that is news to you...I’ve got nothing. Cork City also has nothing after the roof blew off in Hurricane Ophelia’s wrath in Ireland.
