There are plenty of reasons to get excited for Tacoma Stars second full season

Stars open the season at home, Friday night

Wilson Tsoi/Tacoma Stars

I believe that last season, one of my fellow Sounder at Heart writers wrote an article telling you to get hype. I do not remember which one it was but they had a good thing going, I had a nice solid basic cry after reading that, and now I hope to channel that article here. For the Stars, their home and season opener is tomorrow night vs the Milwaukee Wave at Kent’s ShoWare at 7:35. Get Hype.

Leading up to the opener, the Stars announced they would be returning Raphael and Jamael Cox along with Dan Antoniuk and Joey Gjertsen. Get Hype. They along with 12 other players were with the Stars last season! Get Hype. The stars added other MASL quality players. Get Hype!

Do you want a good reason to come out to the game tomorrow night? Philip Lund, former Sounder, returns to the area. Get Hype. Also Darren Sawatzky will be there. Get hype. And Steve Zakuani will be taking the ceremonial first kick. GET HYPE!

Speaking of hype, the intro video will be new according to team Owner Lane Smith. He says that it will be intense and take an intimate look at the players. Lane also talked promotions saying the 2 for 1 beer nights would be back. The Halloween costume contest will be back, and is happening tonight with Stars players and staff being the judges. This of course will be hosted by on field MC Elliot “the Mohican warrior” Fauske. Get hype.

Lane Smith says to bring home the intensity that parts of the glass will be brought down along the bench side and portions along the penalty box side will also come down. “It allows for a more intimate experience, with the players.” Get hype.

Darren Sawatzky hypes the season and the new offensive fire power saying “The addition of Ramone Palmer, along with Antoniuk fit and McCluskey back from Sweden we are looking good offensively.”

Philip Lund is “learning everyday in his transition to the indoor game” and “finishes everything with his left foot.”

The three Kansas City players bring championship experience which “is worth it’s weight in gold.” Darren also spoke highly of the players saying “Robert can smash ball;” “Ramone is a shifty goal scoring forward;” and “Alain is a Great veteran leader”

“They only complement what we already have”.

Speaking of what he already has, the seasoned Tacoma Stars young guns are “starting to fall into the veteran bucket. They were learning the game and now you can plug Troy or Corey into any team in the league and they would fit right in. I expect them to have all-star quality years.”

Looking ahead to Milwaukee Darren said “this going to be a very tough opener. They are a perennial contender with lots of championships. They have kept the team together and we are expecting a very experienced, and very potent attacking team. We could find ourselves down early.”

I also got the chance to talk with Troy Petersen, who is rumored around the Stars camp to be the captain this season, said this “We look good this year and we are looking forward to playing at the ShoWare Center in front of our fans. We are trying to get wins there and keep winning and make a run on the Ron Newman Cup. We are excited.” Talking about his new team mates “they are all great guys, we lave having them in the locker room, they fit in very well”.

Looking a head to the opposition on the weekend Troy said “They look good, really good. They have guys who have been around awhile, scoring goals for a while, we are going to try to limit it as best we can, and try and win at the end of the day”.

They players are hyped, the coaches are hyped, the owners are hyped, The ShoWare Center is hyped*. I got hype, so you, yes you need to, GET HYPE, GET HYPE, GET HYPE!

*The Showare Center can not actually say it is hyped as it is an inanimate object that can not speak.

Ethan Swenson had the original get hype article, and I hope I did the get hype article proud. The Season begins tonight, at 7:35 pm from the ShoWare Center. I’ll be there and you should be there as well. Get Hype.
