The Tacoma Stars hit the road for a pair of tough divisional matches. The Stars first faced the Turlock Express where they came out as 7-3 winners. On Sunday the Stars played arch rivals San Diego Sockers.
The first match on Friday night saw the Stars get out to a first quarter lead on the Express. Joseph Cairel got the first and only goal of the quarter. It was Cairel’s second of the season.
The second quarter was one way traffic from Tacoma. The Stars struck for SIX goals in the frame. Philip Lund opened his MASL Account netting two goals in a row. The first goal was unassisted. Robert Palmer assisted on the second. Those two goals were about two minutes apart.
Alex Megson then made it a four goal lead, slotting home a Raphael Cox pass. It was Megson’s second goal of the campaign.
Then moments later it happened.
Philip Lund and Joey Gjertsen connected and Lund slammed home what would be his hat trick goal. Gjertsen was credited with an assist. This is Lund’s first MASL hat trick.
Dan Antoniuk would slot home his one of his own and see the Stars jump out to a six goal advantage. That would be the first of the season for Antoniuk.
To round out the Stars first half scoring out burst, Joey Gjertsen slotted home a Alain Matingou pass to bring the scoreline to 7-0. That would be the last goal of the half.
Danny Waltman held the Express off the score sheet for thirty plus minutes. Turlock scored mere seconds into the second half. Waltman would keep the Express out of the goal for the remainder of the third frame. The Express would get two goals in the forth to bring the score a bit closer and would end the match down by four. 7-3 was the final.
On Sunday the Stars were down in San Diego to face a tough Sockers side. With the Stars playing a second game in three days things did not go well.
Joey Gjertsen would get things going in the match. Converting a Alex Megson pass to put the Stars up 1-0. San Diego would get one back thru Felipe Gonzalez. Then Kraig Chiles would put San Diego ahead with his first two on the night. Those goals would take the teams to halftime. The Score was 3-1.
The second half would start promising for the Stars with Philip Lund getting his 1st of the night and fourth of the season. San Diego would score three more. Two via Chiles and one from Erick Tovar.
Evan McNeley would get the Stars to with in three with his first goal of the season. It is the closest the Stars would get. San Diego would get two more goals and bring the score line to 8-3.
Tacoma now falls to a record of 1-2. And now is looking forward to a home match with the Turlock Express. Match time is slated for 7:35 pm Friday night from the Accesso ShoWare Center in Kent. It is 2 for 1 beer night and should offer plenty of exciting arena soccer action.
