We are one-third of the way thru the Tacoma Stars season. At this point a lot of the Stars media, myself included, would have thought that things would be a tad bit different.
After the two match road trip to Kansas City and Milwaukee, where the Stars lost twice more, we see a team in trouble. The sit tied for third*, at 2-5, with Turlock in a surprisingly weaker Pacific Division. The Pacific Division is lead by San Diego who is 6-0, followed by the Ontario Fury who sit at 3-5.
*Turlock is listed as fourth on the MASL website courtesy of a -8 goal difference. Tacoma is third with a -6.
The Tacoma Stars attempted to strengthen the defensive corps, while bringing in some offensive firepower. Currently the Stars have conceded forty-one goals and scored thirty-five. NO Tacoma player leads in any offensive stat category.
Currently Tacoma Defender Robert Palmer sits tied for third in Penalty Minutes. And Goalie Danny Waltman sits in sixth in the Goals Against Average posting 5.59 line. The Stars also rank in the bottom half (10th) of attendance this season, averaging a nice 1,754 per game.
The fans need something to get behind. Currently the Stars are not providing that. The Stars top five point earners are Joey Gjertsen (8 pts), Philip Lund (7), Alex Megsen (5), Derek Johnson (5), and Raphael Cox (5). Three of these five (Gjertsen, Lund, and Cox) played all seven matches.
Tacoma play Saturday night. This match will be the first of a three-game home stand, and is Star Wars night. The match is Saturday December 16 at 7:05 p.m. at ShoWare Center.
The Stars will be facing an always dangerous Soles De Sonora side. Featuring a one Franck Tayou who is averaging three points per game. In the last three matches Tayou has scored at least three goals in each.
On Sunday the Stars will face the same Soles side in the second game of the home stand. It will be interesting to see how each side adjusts to the previous nights action. Kickoff is at 5:05 pm.
