Sounders will let fans self-select partial season-ticket package in 2017

And we picked out the best games to choose.

If you aren’t a season ticket holder you now have your opportunity to get seats to the 2016 MLS Cup title defense. The Seattle Sounders launched their single seat and partial season ticket packages today. Full season (17 MLS games and 2 friendlies) are still available as well.

There are new options in 2017. First, they have a flex pack where you can get into nine games of your choice. It includes a $1 discount off the higher single ticket price for matches against the Portland Timbers. Yes, that means variable pricing is here.

It’s interesting that prices for the New York Red Bulls, Toronto FC and Orlando City SC are on par with the LA Galaxy, while former full-stadium opponents Vancouver Whitecaps and Real Salt Lake are in the third tier.

FC Dallas is a great value buy. They play exciting soccer and that will be during the playoff run. If you buy the flex pack they are a must, so is the final regular season game. Sprinkle in both the Timbers games and TFC for the MLS Cup rematch. Atlanta United is packed with interesting players, so include them as well. That’s six that are basically must-buys to maximize your enjoyment while taking advantage of some of the cheaper ‘white’ and ‘blue’ level matches rather than just going ‘green’ and ‘shale’. Throw in Vancouver, RSL and DC United and you’ll have the best value based on quality of opponent and connections to Seattle.

The half-season packs already built are a simpler quick purchase and put you in the Hawk’s Nest/Green Zone or the upper-central 300s. Those upper 300s are also available as a full season package.

If you are buying a single season ticket this year you must go to the home opener. Red Bull are a good team, plus it’s the first home game since winning the MLS Cup. You will never again have the opportunity to go to the first match defending the first MLS Cup the Sounders won. Go to this one.
