MLS
The Vancouver Whitecaps will host the New York Red Bulls tonight in the second leg of their CCL quarterfinal match up. The teams head back to Vancouver tied 1-1, with the Whitecaps holding the narrow road-goal advantage.
They will not be able to make use of the talents of newly-signed Mauro Rosales who is already cap-tied to FC Dallas.
Speaking of FC Dallas, they lost their second leg, but won on aggregate, and will move on to the CCL semifinal against Pachuca.
Our friends over at Big D Soccer do not appear to have been impressed by their team's performance and are hoping for a better showing in the semifinals and in MLS action.
Four Four Two has a piece on the "Paradox of Parity". Although I'm unsure what exactly the paradox is, it is a decent article on how parity has affected the league.
Howler links us over to the official MLS Style Guide. Did you know that I can violate it in this sentence simply by referring to the Seattle Sounders?
It's the final rush for every pundit to get out their preseason power rankings and the Nutmeg News has thrown their hat in the ring. It is nice to see the Sounders take the top position yet again.
Is San Diego the new expansion leader, or is too much being read into some of the latest comments by Don Garber?
As depressing as it may be, it looks like it's time for NYCFC fans to settle into Yankee Stadium for the long run.
Dave's article yesterday on how the Sounders have improved was part of a larger SB Nation initiative. You can find the corresponding article for every team here in the 2017 MLS Season Preview.
USA
The schedule and format for the 2017 US Open Cup has been announced, with MLS scheduled to join the fray starting on June 14th.
The She Believes Cup has kicked off, with the US Women defeating Germany 1-0.
The US Men's U-20 team defeated the Mexico U-20s on Monday for the first time in over 31 years. They can punch their ticket to the U-20 World Cup with either a draw or win tomorrow vs. El Salvador.
World
If you can trust one "Herculez Gomez" on twitter, the rumor is that Mexico is looking into the possibility of dropping pro/rel in order to increase league stability.
