Mexico will visit Seattle for pre-Gold Cup friendly

Confederations Cup will be wrapped, and Mexico will be preparing to defend their Gold Cup title by facing off against Paraguay.

CenturyLink Field is playing host to international soccer again. The Mexican National Team will come to Seattle July 1 to play a pre-Gold Cup friendly against Paraguay.

Update 5/22:

Kickoff will be at 5:00 p.m. on the Saturday, roughly a week before the tournament starts. Mexico’s first tournament match is July 9 in San Diego against El Salvador. They play Ghana in Houston three days prior to the friendly, which closes a June in which they’ll also play the FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia.

Meixco’s Gold Cup squad will likely be a mix of players from the Confederations Cup, World Cup Qualifying, and players trying to lay claim to a spot on the 2018 World Cup roster. The squad for the friendly will have played together almost as much as a club team by the time they arrive in the Northwest.

Sounders season ticket members can buy tickets immediately (12:00 p.m., April 11) while general sales start a week later on April 18.
