Major Link Soccer: Get well Marc Bartra

Dortmund postpones its UCL match after an explosion, Bartra needed wrist surgery, and where will Canada host World Cup matches.

Seattle

Two Seattle soccer products teamed up for a perfect goal in the USL. Flip throw to bicycle kick is the way most teams draw it up, right?

MLS

Power rankings usually love crazy goals and road draws, but this week Seattle doesn't move at all for their solo point in San Jose.

Remember Dan Kennedy, the only good player on Chivas USA for a while? Turns out he was still active. The former MLS keeper is finally retiring from the LA Galaxy, though, and joining the broadcast team, a normal thing for strong goalies it seems.

Good and bad news for Atlanta United fans, or just fans of new stadiums. The new Mercedes-Benz Stadium timeline was updated with a bunch of words that seem to mean nothing because one person said September, the other said August and said they'd still be on time to host everything planned and that is in July so... who knows.

2026 Tri-bid Region

As the days go by, we start to learn more about the Tri-bid including the turf (or lack thereof) it'll be played on and automatic entry into the event for the hosting nations.

Speaking of that tournament bid, which Canadian cities would/should host the 10 matches our northern neighbors are getting?

The US backed themselves into a corner early in World Cup Qualifying for Russia, but after a couple decent-good performances under Bruce Arena they're heading in the right direction.

Top form is what really matters, though, and it is what Geoff Cameron and John Brooks are doing for their clubs right now.

S2 had a poor game this past weekend, and it showed with three VWFC II players being named to Indomitable City Soccer's USL Western Conference Best XI, including multiple Canadian-based UW products. The Eastern Conference again saw Damion Lowe make the side and another weird formation, lining up in a 3-3-4 (yes, I, too, have done that in FIFA).

Carmelo Anthony is likely leaving the New York Knicks, at least if Phil Jackson finally gets his way. But while Melo's future is in flux in the Big Apple, his soccer team's future is in his control. Owner of NASL side, Puerto Rico FC, Carmelo is an integral part of his side's growth and path for success.

Diana Matheson is one of the Reign's newest players, and the team she left is trying to figure out who is filling her void.

MLB seems to do things that just make me naturally want to like them, like unveiling themed jerseys for the year, or all the ridiculous food available at their games. I have been a big proponent of the Sounders' pho-ritto on Twitter, and now I need to go find all this ridiculous baseball food like a churro dog in Phoenix...

World

Scary scene in Dortmund after an explosion hit the Borussia Dortmund bus on their way to the stadium to play AS Monaco in the Champions League. If you weren't on the internet, you probably missed it, but the match was postponed one day because of the explosion. Marc Bartra was the only injury; the Dortmund CB broke his wrist and required surgery.

For Monaco fans that traveled for the match many were left without a plan for the night, but that's what social media is for. Thanks to plenty of Dortmund fans, Monaco supporters have housing from some friends that will become enemies again soon.

For the match that did happen, Juventus easily took down Barcelona 3-0 in Turin. Though, forgive Barca fans for not caring  too much after they roared back against PSG last time out.

Speaking of Barca, the Classico against Real Madrid got one iota less interesting as Neymar will miss it. The Brazilian is suspended three domestic matches. His two yellows got him one match but "sarcastically applauding" the fourth official as he left earned him two additional matches.
