It’s the time of year when the US Open Cup comes to town with the first round of the tournament kicking off May 9 and 10 with two Seattle-based sides facing off.
Sounders 2 may be barred from competing under the “owned or controlled by a higher division side” but Sounders FC U23s are not and they open the tournament as an “away” side against Kent-based OSA FC, who play in the NPSL and qualified under an at-large bid.
OSA FC usually plays their home matches at French Field in Kent but this match will be played Memorial Stadium at Seattle Center. The two teams meet on May 10 at 7:30 p.m. Each side will be starting early in their season as OSA starts on April 16 and the U23s open on May 19 after the second round USOC match.
No matter who wins, the second round will be played in Seattle as Reno 1868 FC will travel to Starfire (OSA) or Sumner Stadium (U23s) for a May 17 match in the second round in a fight for the Lamar Hunt Trophy.
