Three Big Storylines:
- Friday sees three MLS games on the schedule, two being on National TV and one being the first Cascadia Cup match of the year as the Sounders head to Vancouver (this is not the gamethread you are looking for). The Philadelphia Union host New York City FC at 4 PM on Friday night on ESPN, you can thank the NBA playoffs not starting until Saturday for the prime TV slot. The Union have lost three in a row and only have two points from five played. Another loss here would see the calls for a change in management grow louder. The San Jose Earthquakes finish the night hosting FC Dallas.
- The Chicago Fire are undefeated in both matches since Bastian Schweinsteiger has joined the club with a draw and a win against Montreal and Columbus. They have a winnable match on Saturday as they host the New England Revolution (2:00 PM, MLS Live) in the third game of their three match home stand that coincides with the World Cup winner’s addition. Schweinsteiger has been drawing the headlines, but Dax McCarty is having an MLS Best XI quality start to the season.
- MLS is coming to broadcast FOX on Saturday. This will be the first time that FOX has run an MLS and Bundesliga double header on the network. Bundesliga opens the action with Bayer Leverkusen featuring Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez hosting league leaders Bayern Munich. Then Rob Stone and Alexi Lalas will be on site in Orlando for the pregame studio show where they expect to have Kaka join them for a pregame interview as Orlando hosts the LA Galaxy. John Strong and Brad Friedel on the call.
From a Sounders Point of View:
Seattle Sounders fans will be tuned in on Saturday for that FOX game and cheering for Orlando. The Galaxy are tied with the Sounders coming into the weekend with six points from five played and are next week’s opponent in the third of a three game road trip for the Sounders. Go Orlando.
The MLS Weekend concludes on Saturday (no games on Sunday, it looks like MLS scheduled around the Easter holiday) with the Portland Timbers hosting Sporting Kansas City. Portland is currently leading the Supporters’ Shield standings with 13 points from six played. Go Sporting.
