The week before the All Star Game gamethread. MLS Watercolorist

Three Big Storylines:

  1. Don’t look now, but there is an MLS team averaging 2.5 points per game. Orlando City has only played six games due to a snow out in New England and the inexplicable early season MLS bye but they have five wins in that span. Cyle Larin has six of Orlando’s eight goals on the year and looks to be increasing his transfer value every week he takes the field. Enjoy watching Larin now, odds are once the summer transfer window opens in Europe that Orlando is going to get their eight figure asking price and Larin will be moving on. Orlando hosts Colorado in the UniMas/Facebook game of the week.
  2. The Vancouver Whitecaps go from playing two Cascadia Cup matches in a row to an all Canadian clash (derby?) with the Montreal Impact this weekend (Saturday, Noon, MLS Live). Montreal were three goals down away in Philadelphia last weekend and instead of packing up the poutine and heading back across the border, they fought back for three second half goals and a road point. The Whitecaps have a red hot Fredy Montero, but not much else going right at this time. Look for an entertaining Canada Derby (there I did it) on Saturday.
  3. Sunday sees a single National TV game as ESPN takes a week off so Fox Sports 1 takes center stage and has Atlanta United returning home from a four game road trip to host D.C. United in an increasingly common United versus United MLS game. Atlanta’s last home game was on March 18th. With a road heavy early schedule, Atlanta heads out for two more road games after this brief home reprieve.

From a Sounders Point of View:

Opening the MLS weekend we have a cross conference clash. Seattle Sounders fans will be cheering for Toronto FC as they host the Houston Dynamo on Friday night (4:30 PM, MLS Live).

Look for Orlando to improve upon their stellar 2.5 PPG mark as they host Colorado on Saturday.

FC Dallas hosts the Portland Timbers Saturday (5:00 PM, MLS Live, ROOT Sports in the Northwest) in a battle of the top two teams in the Western Conference through the early season. While I would not mind a home win, let’s cheer for a Draw.

In a battle of two floundering franchises, let’s cheer for the Philadelphia Union to travel across the country and take three points from the LA Galaxy on Saturday night (7:30 PM, MLS Live).
