UPDATE: A Sounders spokesperson said Chad Marshall was basically allowed to take the midweek game off in order to avoid playing three matches in eight days.
Massive Report’s Patrick Murphy reported from Columbus a rumor that Sounders center back Chad Marshall did not travel with the team for Wednesday’s match against the Crew. The club declined a request for comment. Marshall has missed four matches this season with an apparent disc-related “sore back” issue, but he has been in the Seattle starting XI for the last four matches.

Roman Torres was officially listed as questionable in the game notes for Wednesday’s match; if he’s unable to start, it’s likely that Tony Alfaro slots in next to Gustav Svensson.
Despite missing four matches, Marshall has been the Sounders’ most consistent center back this year. Gustav Svensson has played in every game, but he’s made one fewer start at center back. Torres, the presumed starter at the start of the year, has missed eight games so far.
