DeAndre Yedlin celebrates Newcastle’s promotion with new Washington tattoo

That’s pretty nice.

Even though DeAndre Yedlin hasn’t played for the Seattle Sounders since 2014, his native region has always been close to his heart. Now, it will literally be that way.

Yedlin celebrated Newcastle United’s promotion back to the Premier League by adding another Pacific Northwest-themed tattoo to his collection. This one on his right hand, the state of Washington with a mariner’s compass inside, is right below a tattoo of the Seattle city crest. That means that whenever Yedlin puts his hand over his heart for the national anthem, the state of Washington will be right there.

While our region may still occupy a special place in his heart, the chances of him returning to the Sounders or MLS anytime soon are pretty slim. Yedlin is now coming off consecutive seasons in England where he played at least 1,800 minutes and made at least 20 starts. All indications are that he’s a significant part of Newcastle’s promotion plans, especially after they paid a $6.6 million transfer fee to secure his services ahead of this season.
