Zach Mathers converts penalty, makes it 2-1

Portland had equalized before halftime, but Seattle is back in it

Despite an equalizer by Portland in the first half, the Sounders came roaring into the second half. Not long after Aaron Kovar had a nice chance saved by the goalkeeper, Felix Chenkam’s hard work in the box forced a handball by a Portland defender, earning his team a penalty. Zach Mathers left no doubt, putting his kick down the middle to make it 2-1.

There was a bit of controversy about the penalty, as the Timbers announcer seemed to think there should have been a foul called on Irvin Parra. The replay doesn’t show much.
