The USMNT finishes Gold Cup group play needing a result to win the group while Jordy Delem and Martinique can advance with a win against Panama

Soccer: 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup-USA at Martinique
Cristian Roldan was cap tied to the USA on Wednesday.

Three Big Storylines:

  1. The United States has had an underwhelming Gold Cup campaign to this point earning a tie with Panama and only a 3-2 win over Martinique because of some heroics from Jordan Morris who was named the CONCACAF Man of the Match after scoring two goals including the winner. Each team can make up to six roster changes between the group stage and the knockout rounds. It has already been reported that Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore are with the USMNT and Clint Dempsey is heading that way. So this will be the last opportunity for a group of players to make an impression before the roster turnover.
  2. The Gold Cup plays all of these group games as doubleheaders. Meaning if you are a USMNT fan and buy a ticket to today’s game you also get Panama versus Martinique. The downside is that unlike the World Cup or last summer’s Copa America Centenario, the final games of the group stage are not played concurrently. It is a pretty big advantage to be the second game of the double header and know exactly what you need to accomplish to advance or win the group. The Group winner of Group B will play a third place team from either Group A or C in the quarterfinals while the second place team will play the winner of Group A, Costa Rica.
  3. Panama and Martinique open today’s action in a match that has implications for both teams. Both teams played the USA extremely well and could have gotten a win (Panama) or draw (Martinique) with one different bounce of the ball. Panama still has hopes of winning the group and with a win today would be on seven points. It would then be up to the USMNT to beat their goal differential. Martinique will advance with a win and could still win the group in the USMNT draw or lose the nightcap. Martinique’s Kevin Parsemain is tied atop the Golden Boot race with three goals and the Seattle Sounders Jordy Delem has been anchoring their three man backline all tournament.

From a Sounders Point of View:

Jordan Morris and Cristian Roldan are both with the USMNT. Roldan is coming off his first ever game with the senior national team while Jordan Morris is coming off his first brace for his nation. As covered above, expect Jordy Delem to go the full 90 minutes for Martinique.
