We’re going to have wait a little longer on Derlis Gonzalez

It looks like he’ll remain with Dynamo Kiev at least until they finish their Champions League qualifying series.

Hopefully, you didn’t think this whole Derlis Gonzalez saga was going to be simple. The Seattle Sounders may still get what seems to be their top transfer target, but it appears as if it will have to wait at least until next week.

One report out of Paraguay suggest that Gonzalez is still expecting to join the Sounders, but that Dynamo Kiev is intent on keeping him through the second leg of their Champions League qualifier against Young Boys on August 2nd. There’s also a seemingly well-connected Twitter account that suggests Kiev is a bit more intent on keeping him.

Neither of these reports offer anything in the form of sources, but we can be reasonably assured that Gonzalez is not already inbound to Seattle, as had been reported was the plan earlier this week. At least, that’s the obvious conclusion after Gonzalez posted this images on his Instagram account:

Those photos appear to have been taken at Jurassic Dream Island Aquapark in Kiev (as discovered by commenter Oceanlab). In other words, he’s most definitely not at Great Wolf Lodge.

The good news here is that the Sounders have a pretty good track record of pushing deals like this across the finish line. Nicolas Lodeiro, Roman Torres and Obafemi Martins — to name three -- all were involved in protracted negotiations where the Sounders figured out how to get the deal done.

Nothing is over until paperwork is signed, but they’ve still got plenty of time (the transfer window remains open through Aug. 9) to make this happen.
