Former Porto prospect linked to Sounders

Ismael Diaz is without a team after scoring 15 goals for Portuguese giants’ reserves in the past two seasons.

Another day, another player being linked to the Sounders. This time it’s Panamanian forward Ismael Diaz, who has eight appearances with the senior national team and is still just 20 years old.

Apparently, he’s currently without a club team after spending the last two seasons with Porto’s reserves. He scored a total of 15 goals in that time, but 13 of them came in 2015-16 as he was limited to five starts and 687 minutes last year.

Most recently, Diaz was with Panama in the Gold Cup, where he scored one goal in three appearances.

The report linking him to the Sounders is a bit tenuous, it should be said. His agent even says “There is nothing concrete.” Diaz probably isn’t a player the Sounders are building their transfer window around, and they’d have to do quite a bit of maneuvering to fit him on the roster along with the other rumored targets, but he does seem to offer some upside.
