With Brian Schmetzer facing Sigi Schmid for the first time since LA blew out the A-League Sounders 5-1 in the 2002 US Open Cup the Saturday night match on ESPN will bump the LA Galaxy versus Seattle Sounders rivalry up just another notch. LA is already the measuring stick to which all teams in the league are appraised, but their 2017 is bad. They are awful at home. They get beaten late in games.
This should make for good television, even if some of the Gold Cup winning Sounders do not see the field. The Sounders are in middle of a five-match unbeaten run, and have a better road record than LA has home record.
Absences: Injury, international duty and suspension
Seattle: Osvaldo Alonso is out. No other players are listed on the injury report. None.
LA: Jack McBean is suspended. Robbie Rogers is on the season ending disabled list. The Galaxy did not provide an injury update on the gamenotes.
Bradley Diallo and Jelle van Damme will be suspended if they get a yellow tonight. Nathan Smith, Romain Alessandrini, and Tony Alfaro (who reached good behavior incentive last match) are two yellows away from accumulation suspension.
Armando Villareal is the center referee. Of note is that Daniel Radford is the 4th official.

Nouhou starting over Brad Evans is an interesting choice. It will force Joevin to have more defensive responsibilities, but will give the left side speed that can abuse LA’s backline.
LA Galaxy Lineup
Brian Rowe; Pele van Anholt, Daniel Steres, Jelle Van Damme ©, Ashley Cole; Jermaine Jones, João Pedro; Romain Alessandrini, Giovani dos Santos, Emmanuel Boateng; Gyasi Zardes.
Um, yes, that’s Jermaine Jones sitting in front of the already quite slow LA defense.
