‘Still much work to be done’ on Derlis Gonzalez transfer, ESPN reports

Dynamo holding out on transfer fee.

Although it looks to be only a matter of time until Victor Rodriguez is officially unveiled as the Seattle Sounders’ newest signing, the situation surrounding Derlis Gonzalez appears to be not quite as close to finalized as previous reports suggested.

According to ESPN, “it's still unclear if the Sounders will get the deal over the finish line before the close of the summer transfer window on Aug. 9, and that there is still much work to be done.”

While the Sounders have the best offer on the table — and Gonzalez seems inclined to accept — Dynamo Kiev’s transfer fee demands have still not been met. Dynamo paid €9.4 million to FC Basel in 2015 for Gonzalez’s rights, and are likely hoping to at least recoup that.

The Sounders’ valuation of Gonzalez is not based on what Dynamo once paid, though, and surely have their own calculation.

That said, if the sides are reasonably close, a deal is likely to get done and the Sounders do have a good track record on pushing these kinds of situations over a metaphorical bar of some sort. The second leg of Dynamo’s Champions League qualifier against Young Boys is on Wednesday and that result could well be the thing that tips the scales.
