The Colorado Rapids are a potent 6-3-1 +5 at home. They’ve scored two or more goals in five of their 10 home games. This will be a tough test for a Seattle Sounders team that has three road disasters leading to a poor 1-6-3 -9 away record. Only twice have they kept a team to fewer than two goals on the road.
Brian Schmetzer will be using a less than ideal right back as Evans is suspended, Fisher and Roldan are at the Gold Cup, Svensson will be in central midfield, and Henry Wingo is out injured after his emergency half at RB against Portland. Jordy Delem or Joevin Jones will start on the right.
Seattle is 5-3-1 +1 at Colorado in the regular season and beat the Rapids in Commerce City to win the Western Conference in 2016.
The keys to this game are one of attitude. Seattle must have the swagger of champions, to believe in themselves more than the opponent believes in their downfall. The times of creating chances must be long past, instead the likes of Clint Dempsey and Nicolas Lodeiro must create goals rather than opportunities. With an attack structured around width from fullback it is imperative that the forward and midfield layers also defend, or the counter can be crushing. Osvald Alonso and Gustav Svensson are capable of controlling the middle, and they shall.
Absences: Injury, international duty and suspension
