As expected, the Seattle Sounders have signed a slew of S2 players to help fill out their roster for Saturday’s friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt. This roster will include seven S2 players: Rodrigue Ele, Shandon Hopeau, Ray Saari, Francisco Narbon, Brian Nana-Sinkam, Sam Rogers and Irvin Parra.
All of those players have been called up at least once before during the Sounders’ U.S. Open Cup run or for the Club Nexaca friendly. Parra and Saari have now been called up four times, the maximum allowed under the MLS Collective Bargaining Agreement. MLS teams are allowed to sign players from their USL teams to up to four, four-day contracts that allow them to compete in friendlies and Open Cup matches.
The tradeoff in this situation is that S2 will be left with just seven of their own players on the roster for their match at Real Monarchs SLC later in the day. S2 will be forced to call up numerous players from the Academy ranks. Of course, the U18s have their own match on Friday against regional rivals Crossfire.
