The Tacoma Stars announced that tryouts for the 2017-2018 season will be held from 7-11 pm on Saturday, Sept. 22. The tryouts are at the Tacoma Soccer Center and there is a $50 fee.
Darren Sawatzky is hyped for the upcoming tryouts saying "The next month will be exciting as we solidify our roster with local stars and new additions to the team. We have some new signings and this will add to both the entertainment value as well as the production within our team. Stay tuned."
It has also been announced that on Friday October 27th, the Tacoma Stars will open up their home slate. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:35 pm at the ShoWare Center in Kent, WA. In what surly will be an exciting match, the Stars will look to launch a strong campaign.
The Stars also announced that three notable veterans from last season — goalkeeper Danny Waltman, and defenders Evan McNeley and Trevor Jensen — will be returning to the squad for the upcoming season.
Danny Waltman was a two time Goalkeeper of the Week winner and winner of Goalkeeper of the Month for November. The Gig Harbor native will look to continue his fine form for his local club.
Even McNeley, who joined the Stars prior to last season, will look to improve on his eight goals and six assists from last season. A seasoned veteran of the Major Arena Soccer League, McNeley will continue to mentor the young Tacoma defense.
Sawatzky had this to say about the roster additions "We are very happy to bring both Danny and Evan back with the Stars. Their proven leadership will be important as we look to build a contender."
