Nicolas Lodeiro called up by Uruguay national team

The Sounders will be on a bye week.

Nicolas Lodeiro has been called up by the Uruguay for a pair of World Cup qualifiers that will take place on Aug. 31 and Sept. 5. Uruguay will host Argentina in Montevideo then travel to Asuncion to take on Paraguay.

Luckily for the Sounders, he shouldn’t miss any games during this time. The Sounders will host the Portland Timbers on Aug. 27 and then will take the next week off to accommodate the FIFA international window. The Sounders will start play again on Sept. 10 when they host the LA Galaxy.

A safe assumption will be that Lodeiro will leave the team after the game against Portland and then return a few days before the LA game. But there is always a chance that Uruguay will want him before that game against the Timbers.

Uruguay is currently third in CONMEBOL with 23 points in 14 matches played. The top four teams automatically qualify for Russia 2018 with the fifth place team advancing to an inter-confederation playoff.
