The Portland Timbers will be facing the Seattle Sounders a bit short-handed. With Liam Ridgewell (quad), Jake Gleeson (hamstring) and David Guzman (yellow card accumulation) already ruled out, Timbers coach Caleb Porter confirmed on Friday and Fanendo Adi would not be making the trip either. Adi has six career goals against the Sounders, more than any Timbers player.
There was one bit of a good news for them on the injury front, though, as it was announced Dairon Asprilla would be available despite need medical attention following Wednesday’s win over the Colorado Rapids. Asprilla’s ailment was apparently dizzy and suffering from dehydration.
Darren Mattocks is the most likely candidate to replace Adi, but he will be starting his third match in eight days. Jeff Attinella will surely be in goal for Gleeson and Lawrence Olum is likely to get the nod in place of Ridgewell.
Ben Zemanski filled in for Guzman the last time he was out, but that’s less assured. Zemanski has not played in any of the Timbers’ last five games. Amobi Okugo is another possible replacement, as is the possibility of sliding Darlington Nagbe into that spot and inserting Asprilla.
